Before you start the Jazz Tutorial courses I recommend you have:

• 5+ years piano-playing experience - so that you’re familiar with the instrument and can focus on learning Jazz.

• Basic music theory - you're familiar with major scales, minor scales, major chords, and minor chords. Basic knowledge of the 12 keys will be helpful.

• Reading music recommended (treble clef only) - Most of my lessons DO NOT require you to read music. However, to play jazz songs from a real book you'll need to read treble clef.

Course Q+A

How many lessons are there?
There's roughly 120 video lessons (21+ hours of concise video content). The lessons build you from the ground up. My goal is to make it easy for you to COMPLETE this training, and not to overwhelm you with thousands of videos that you could never possibly finish.

How many videos are in each course?
Roughly 15-20 lessons per course. Most lessons are 10-15 minutes long with concise delivery.

Can I re-watch the courses?
Yes, as many times as you need. You can pause the lessons, and adjust the playback speed to double, or half-speed.

Do I get access to everything from day one?
Yes - you'll get instant access to all of the courses from day one (there's no drip feeding of content). You can watch the entire course library as quickly as you like!

Is there any live training?
No - all lessons are pre-recorded and concisely edited for speed.

How are your courses different to your YouTube videos?
The courses are step by step, we don't jump around between random topics, and we take the time needed to fill in the gaps to your knowledge.

Are there printable materials to go with the lessons?
Yes - there's lesson notes with each lesson, as well as sheet music for you to print and study at the piano.

Are the videos downloadable?
No, the videos are not downloadable. Login to the Course Members Area to watch the lessons anytime (internet connection needed). Lesson notes and premium resources can all be downloaded.

Do I need any other equipment?
I recommend you purchase a Real Book (roughly $30). That way you can apply what you learn immediately to real jazz songs after each lesson.

Prerequisites Q+A

I'm over 60 - is it too late for me to learn jazz piano?
My audience is full of people over 60! I have many students in their 80s, who remain sharp and make great progress in jazz piano. I believe that having TIME to focus and immerse yourself in jazz piano (without distraction) is the most important thing.

I don’t read music - can I still join?
You can still join and learn from the courses. Most of the videos DO NOT require you to read music. My 'reading music guideline' is so that you can apply what you learn to the songs in your real book.

How good at reading music do I need to be?
You only need to read treble clef to play jazz songs in a real book (there's no bass clef in most real books).
